Welcome To C. M. Macdonell Elementary School!
Hello, Macdonell Parents!
Monday, February 27th will be the beginning of the fifth six weeks! Wow! It is incredible how quickly this year is passing! Monday is also the first day of Read Across America week. Two classes from Macdonell Elementary will be recognized at the Proclamation Ceremony. Ms. Leslie Allende's 4th grade class and Ms. Christella Cruz’ 2nd grade class were both finalists in the competition. We are thrilled to announce Ms. Cruz' class project was the Overall Grand Champion for LISD. We are so proud of all the students’ efforts on the class Reading Projects.
On Tuesday, February 28th our school will host a Family Reading Night in the Macdonell Gym. Come by from 5:00-7:00 pm and enjoy planned reading activities and refreshments. Our guest reader is Honorable Judge Hugo Martinez. Judge Martinez and his staff frequently read with our fourth grade students, and he has graciously volunteered to be our reader for the evening.
On Wednesday, March 1st, Open House and Report Card Day will be from 8:00-11:00 am and 1:00 pm-3:00 pm. Please come visit your child's class, participate in an academic station or review your child's goals while visiting with the teacher. We value your continued efforts and support!
During the fifth and sixth six weeks student assessments will be administered. Please be sure to encourage your child to do their best on a daily basis as we prepare for the STAAR, TELPAS and other state/district mandated tests.
Finally, we are so excited to announce an upcoming Science Family Night in April. On April 4th, Dinosaur George, a paleontologist from San Antonio, will be here with his traveling museum. It is the largest exhibit of its kind in North America featuring prehistoric creatures from around the world. Families will be able to view giant fish, ice aged mammals, amazing sea creatures and dinosaurs from every time period. Please make plans to attend this exciting Science Family Night.
