Principal's Message

Welcome To
C. M. Macdonell Elementary School!

Principal De Leon

Whew! The 2017-2018 school year has flown by as we anxiously await the results of our first administration of 5th grade STAAR.  We are counting down to the opportunity for our 3rd and 4th grade students to shine on the STAAR in mid-May.   I have full confidence that our students will make gains compared to last year’s scores.  Students have been working hard, practicing, and attending tutorials, both after school and on Saturdays.  Teachers have carefully planned, analyzed data, and provided necessary interventions by meeting with students on a one-to-one basis to ensure students comprehend the concepts.

We already have much to celebrate due to our students’ hard work in our choir.  They recently competed at the El Cotton Picker Mariachi Festival in Robstown, Texas.  The group competed in the Elementary Vocal Division.  Mateo Villarreal won 1st place, Aymar Cantu won 3rd place and the other contestants included Yamariz Guadian, Laura Rivera, Jesus Martinez, and Lizbeth Botello.  We are pending the results of an attempt to beat the Guinness Book of World Records in the Category of playing and singing in the largest Mariachi group for 5 minutes. We are also excited about one of our 3rd graders, Jesse Olguin, who has been selected as the HEB Buddy League Student Advocate Award.  He will be receiving this honor at the end of the year awards ceremony.

In addition, Laredo Chamber of Commerce has selected one of our teachers, Ms. Julissa Valdez from PK3, for the School Bell Award for LISD.  This special recognition is presented annually for excellent performance in the classroom.  She is absolutely deserving of this award, and I am so pleased we will celebrate with her in a ceremony at TAMIU on May 2nd.   She is also our campus nominee for Golden Apple Teacher of the Year, and we want to wish her the best of luck.

Finally, I want to remind everyone that I am truly honored to be the Principal of the most talented students and staff here at Macdonell Elementary!
